This is actually a yellow tea. This high mountain Mao Feng from Taiwan is exceptionally fresh, vegetal, and sweet with a pronounced aftertaste. The flavor is full, sweet and round, with a slight astringency.
Mao feng teas are noted for their beautiful leaves. "Mao feng" literally means "fur peak," meaning the leaves still have the downy covering of young buds, and the shape of the dry leaves which is vaguely reminiscent of a mountain peak. It refers to teas harvested when the shoots are still young: there is only a bud and one or two leaves unfolding. It is grown and hand-rolled in the Fu Xi region of the An Hui Province.
